SUMMARY

Tom Griffin’s practice includes business formations, secured transactions, bankruptcy, business and real estate litigation, and collections.

Mr. Griffin received his Bachelor of Science Degree (cum laude) from Santa Clara University in 1988, and obtained his Juris Doctor (with distinction) from McGeorge School of Law in 1991. Upon graduation from McGeorge, Mr. Griffin was awarded the Order of the Coif and became a member of the Traynor Honor Society. He joined the law firm of Hefner, Stark & Marois in 1991 and he became a partner in the firm in January of 2000.

Since 1991, Mr. Griffin has practiced extensively in the area of business formations, secured transactions, business and real estate litigation and bankruptcy representing debtors, creditors, creditors committees and trustees. He has given seminars and has served as a guest lecturer in the areas of bankruptcy, foreclosure and commercial law. Mr. Griffin is licensed to practice in the State of California, as well as each of the United States District Courts in California.

Mr. Griffin serves as general counsel for the California Association of Collectors. In that role, Mr. Griffin’s duties include drafting legislation, meeting with legislators and stakeholders regarding bills before the California Legislature that impact the credit and collections industry, advising the Association and its members concerning changes in the law affecting the industry and organizing and moderating legal seminars for the Association’s members. Additionally, Mr. Griffin defends collection agencies in lawsuits filed by consumers claiming violations of the FDCPA, the Rosenthal Act and related statutes. Also, Mr. Griffin serves on the Members Attorney Program Committee of ACA International, the nationwide association for credit and collection professionals.

PERSONAL ACTIVITIES & AFFILIATIONS

In addition to his law practice, Mr. Griffin is a four-year board member (2010-2014) and past-president (2012-2013) of the Sacramento Valley Bankruptcy Forum. Also, Mr. Griffin is a past president (four years) and board member of River Park Youth Baseball in Sacramento. He is a member of the Alumni Association and a fund-raiser for Jesuit High in Sacramento. Mr. Griffin has served as a youth sports coach for nine years and was a member of the Active 20-30 Club No. 1 of Sacramento from 1992-2002.
